Common questions

The stuff new owners ask us most.

Are French Bulldogs a high-maintenance breed?

They're not high-maintenance in the way you might expect — they don't need hours of exercise. But they do have specialized health needs: their flat face makes them prone to breathing issues (BOAS), their skin folds need daily cleaning, and they're at higher risk for IVDD spinal problems. So: medium maintenance, but very specific maintenance.

Why is my Frenchie snoring so loudly?

Some snoring is normal — they're brachycephalic, meaning their flat faces compress their airways. But loud, labored breathing, gagging, or fainting are signs of BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) and warrant a vet visit. Keep them lean, cool, and avoid neck pressure (use a harness, not a collar leash). Read the full breathing guide →

What's the best food for Frenchies with allergies?

Frenchies have notoriously sensitive stomachs and are prone to food allergies — usually chicken and beef. Most owners in our community have success with a limited-ingredient or novel-protein diet (fish, duck, kangaroo). Always do an 8-week elimination trial under vet guidance, not a guess-and-switch. Full elimination diet protocol →

How often should I clean their wrinkles?

Daily for face folds, weekly for tail pockets. Use a gentle wipe (no alcohol, no fragrance), get into every fold, then dry thoroughly. Trapped moisture is what causes the yeasty smell and infections. Full wrinkle-care guide →
